Eczema, Asthma, and Allergies in Kids: How to Prepare for Pollen

Eczema, asthma, and allergies in kids often go hand in hand.

In fact, 50–80% of children with eczema and asthma also have environmental allergies.

For example, a child with eczema may also have wheezing. A child with allergies may suddenly develop skin rashes or chronic congestion. It’s easy to assume these are separate issues, but they’re often connected.

Pollen season is here, and these symptoms can flare quickly. The key is preparing your child’s body before inflammation spirals.

The Relationship Between Eczema, Asthma, and Allergies in Kids

These conditions are part of what doctors often call the allergic triad.

They all involve the immune system reacting to triggers in the environment.

Common triggers include:

  • Pollen
  • Dust mites
  • Mold
  • Certain foods
  • Bacteria on the skin

When the immune system becomes inflamed, symptoms can appear in different parts of the body:

  • Skin → eczema, itching, rashes
  • Lungs → wheezing, asthma
  • Sinuses → congestion, seasonal allergies

Instead of treating these symptoms separately, an integrative approach focuses on reducing inflammation throughout the body.

A Real Case From My Pediatric Practice

In my book, Healthy Kids, Happy Moms, I wrote about one of my patients who was two-years-old at the time his parents brought him to see me with the following symptoms:

  • Severe eczema
  • Constant itching
  • Wheezing and asthma symptoms
  • Recurrent ear infections
  • Molluscum contagiosum (viral skin bumps)

In just two years, he had already been on multiple antibiotics and frequent inhaler treatments.

When we looked deeper, we identified several underlying triggers:

  • Dairy in his diet
  • Staph bacteria on the skin
  • Mold exposure in the home HVAC system

After removing dairy, addressing the skin microbiome, and supporting his body with targeted supplements, his skin cleared dramatically over the next few months.

Remember, healing takes time. Reducing inflammation in the body often takes three to six months or longer, but the results can be life-changing.

Why Preparing for Pollen Season Matters

Many families wait until symptoms are severe before taking action.

In conventional medicine, this often means starting steroid creams, inhalers, or antihistamines once inflammation is already high.

An integrative approach focuses on prevention first.

If your child has eczema, asthma, or allergies, the goal is to:

  • Reduce inflammation before pollen peaks
  • Strengthen the immune system
  • Support the gut and skin microbiome
  • Stabilize histamine responses

This proactive approach often leads to fewer flare-ups during allergy season.

Targeted Supplements for Eczema, Asthma, and Allergies in Kids

When families want to stay ahead of pollen-related flares, I often recommend starting with foundational nutrients that help regulate inflammation and immune function.

We’ve made this simple by creating targeted Healthy Kids, Happy Moms supplement bundles designed specifically for these conditions.

The Gut Connection to Allergies, Asthma, and Eczema

Lastly, one of the most overlooked drivers of allergic conditions is the gut microbiome.

When the gut is inflamed or imbalanced, the immune system becomes more reactive.

This can lead to:

  • Food sensitivities
  • Eczema flares
  • Seasonal allergies
  • Asthma symptoms

Supporting gut health through nutrition, probiotics, and digestive support is often one of the most powerful ways to improve these conditions long term.

I highly encourage you to watch the video below to learn more about the importantance of gut health when it comes to eczema, asthma, and allergies.

When to Seek Additional Help

Does your child experience persistent symptoms?

  • Severe eczema flare-ups
  • Chronic wheezing or asthma attacks
  • Repeated sinus infections
  • Worsening allergies each year

If so, it may be time to explore a deeper root-cause approach.

Many families come to our practice after trying multiple treatments without lasting relief. Our goal is to identify the underlying triggers driving inflammation so your child can experience long-term healing.
